Tim Cook - DB778992 in downyard at Quainton Robert Frise - DB778992 at scrapyard awaiting movement to Quainton |
| This van was designed to carry the standard-sized pallets, with loading by forklift through large 8' 5" side doors on each side. The body sides and ends are built using plywood, with steel strengthening as required. This wagon is fitted with vacuum brakes and screw couplings. A total of 2388 vans were built to this diagram. These short wheelbase wagons had a very short revenue service as they were found to be prone to derail at speed. They were initially restricted in speed and then withdrawn. Many went into departmental use, as did our own, which was used as a cement store. Hence the stencilling "Div. Civil Engineer use, Chesterfield" on the side. |
