This hand-operated 10-ton crane was built in 1944 by Cowans Sheldon Ltd. of Carlisle. It was one of a series built during the last war with capacities ranging from 5 to 10 tons. Withdrawn from BE service in October 1982, number ADM 27 was purchased from Rugby diesel depot in 1982 by the Ivatt Trust, who presented it to the Quainton Railway Society. Paired with this vehicle is a match wagon constructed by the Ivatt Trust and QRS on a hopper wagon chassis. The chassis was purchased from Woodham Brothers of Barry in 1982, having begun life as a hopper wagon in 1977. |
