One of a batch of 800 built in Wolverton this box van is of a later type. Originally fitted with vacuum brakes, this equipment was removed, probably on its sale to HM Dockyard, Portsmouth, where it received the number SNSO 837. (SNSO: Senior Naval Stores Officer). At the end of its life with the Navy, it was sold to the scrap merchants Thomas W. Ward Ltd., who purchased it from the Royal Naval Armament Depot at Bedenham, near Gosport. It arrived at Quainton on 17 August 1978. Reference: |
