This Tourist Second Open (TSO) vehicle was purchased from British Rail at Old Oak Common and arrived at Quainton February 1994.  It spent the latter part of its life working for Network South East and arrived in their livery.

It is steam heated and vacuum braked and is compatible with our steam locomotives' brake systems.  It has been extensively refurbished and painted in pre-1965 British Rail maroon to match our other passenger coaches.

The coach is on B4 type bogies.  The B4 was a Western Region, Swindon Works design of lightweight bogie for high speed carriages.  The primary springing was by coil springs instead of the previously normal leaf springs and incorporated air suspension.  It became the British Railways standard bogie for all coaches from 1963.  The riding quality remained much better throughout its longer life between servicing.
