Photos: Tim Cook - Midland Road Crane in Buffer Depot

Built by the Midland Railway at Derby Works in 1890, this crane was designed to lift 1¼ tons on a wrought iron chain. It was purchased from British Railways in 1965, and after storage at Luton it arrived at Quainton during April 1969. In view of its age it is unlikely that this crane will be used again.
