GWR Castle Class No. 5080 Defiant

5080 Defiant - Peter Hoskings and Peter Bush

Defiant has been on display in the Rewley Road Visitor Centre since it first opened to the public and has proved to be a very popular exhibit, particularly as visitors can peer into the cab from the adjacent steps. We are lucky to have an ex BR driver Peter Bush as a member, who actually drove the loco in the days of steam. Peter is only too pleased to pass on his knowledge and experience to our visitors as he sits on the footplate talking to them when he is able.

This has been done on an ad-hoc basis this year but we would like to open on a more regular basis next year. Peter cannot crew every time, so we are looking for volunteers to come forward and chat to our visitors. If you have BR experience so much the better, but if not, training will be given.

One of the most asked questions of the crew is, "Did you really cook your breakfast on your shovel?" So we need a prop - we have the shovel, but need plastic eggs, bacon and sausages. Can you help? Please contact either of us to offer breakfast!
