Job Creation Program

The welcome news is that the Society has been granted up to £11,655 under the Job Creation Scheme of the Manpower Services Commission. Dick Scott has been appointed supervisor and will have a labour force of eight men. The project is due to start on 7th March and will last 26 weeks. Jobs planned are:

  1. The completion of the Restoration Building including walkways between the tracks, the welding bay, the erection of the doors, plumbing, painting and drainage.
  2. Foundation work for the Wembley Building and
  3. Trackwork in the up yard to give a demonstration area for the engines on that side.

The grant is of course available to be drawn on as required and is based on payment of union agreed adult wage rates.
