Quainton News Archive - Quainton News No. 39 - Autumn / Winter 1980
Nearing the end of the most important landmark in our history, our 10th Anniversary at Quainton, my first thoughts are of grateful thanks to those many members who made it possible. It was hard work to cover the consecutive weekends in July and August, but the attendances, which were slow to start with, picked up well - and we had 3,817 visitors altogether at the eight weekends, 217 more than budgeted. Earlier in the year the Bank Holiday attendances were quite good, but experience has shown that the Saturdays are not really worth the effort and we may reduce the Open Weekends in 1980 to two day events. However, before 1979 closes, we will be holding the experimental Xmas openings on 16th and 23rd December, when there will be Santa Specials - and 1980 will start with Quainton being in action on New Year's Day. So your help will be much appreciated for these three unique (so far!) winter jamborees. (Hope it isn't as cold as last year!)
At the Summer Open Day weekend we were pleased to have nearly 3,500 visitors who, on the Bank Holiday in particular, enjoyed warm sunny weather. The Vintage Car and Motor Cycle Rally was again a well supported event and our front cover picture shows David Potter presenting the Quainton Whistle Trophy to the winner of the owner of a beautiful Model T Ford.
Finally, from the Editorial desk, a very Happy Christmas to you all and may 1980 see all your Best Wishes fulfilled.
