John Fairman - The scene looking north is oddly bare without the footbridge. Resting on temporary support towers on the Brill platform, it is being prepared for the new steel arch beams with 45 ft span and 4ft 9 in rise, which will replace the old corroded members.

John Fairman - Allan Vigar stands amidst the sections of the Lewisham Bridge in the Up Yard. The cast iron columns and diagonally braced diaphragm panels are probably more than one hundred years old.
