I do want to ask you all to accept my sincere apology for the very delayed publication of this issue of Quainton News. It is so late that I have called it a Summer / Autumn edition (I didn't want to miss the Summer!). but I am still planning another issue, which will be for the Winter. My problem in trying to produce the Summer issue for August was impossible to resolve, because, as I explained in a letter to the Secretary, I retired from my job at the end of June, took a brief but pleasant holiday in the Yorkshire Dales and then moved my home at the end of July. The new address and telephone number is at the top of this page.
So much is happening at our depot at Quainton that I have decided to make 1st September the deadline for the news in this issue, but there are prospects, as I write, for the arrival of the LT coach and an LT goods brake van later this month by rail, using a track slew, and then we expect the two coaches from Bicester by road. In addition to these C&W additions to stock, every effort is being made to obtain sponsors for the move of 7200 by low-loader from Barry scrapyard. And there are more very historic coach bodies coming too!
1981 has been a year of consolidation at Quainton, although much has been achieved. Nevertheless, we have been having quite a rough time in this year of recession and it is vitally important to our future that publicity for our Centre is given top priority and we gain our fair share of the leisure market. Our life-blood is money from our visitors. We serve them and believe we give them good value. We are fortunate that our founders did such a sound job and gave us a solid basis for our future, because we own our land, track and principal buildings. Let us continue to build on those foundations in 1982.
