On Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August, there was another very successful rally with an excellent number of entries. Ted Rogers and Mick Sell were the judges, who had the difficult task of choosing the winners from so many splendidly finished restored cars and cycles. Our Chairman, David Potter, made the presentations and the prize-winners were:

Motor Cycles

Mr P Brindley for his Motor Cycle Combination (First Prize and Trophy), Mr Taylor for his 1929 Ariel, Mr C D Summers for his 1951 Douglas and Mr R D Ellison for his 1954 Triumph.

Cars

First Prize and Trophy to Mr Conner for his superb 1953 R type Bentley, second was to Mr Frank Hayman for a lovely 1936 Morris 8 and third was to Mr Jellis for his beautifully restored 1939 Bedford lorry.

While reporting on the 1981 Rallies, thanks are due to Eric Miller, Chris Tayler and Mick Sell for running the highly successful Rally of the Giants in the car park field on 19th July. There was a great show of pre-1950 automobiles brought to Quainton by members of the American Car Club and the field was absolutely packed. Lt Col Band of the AVDC was invited and there were other distinguished representatives at the site.

One of the delights of the August Bank Holiday was the appearance of a squadron of vintage bicycles, if that is the right collective noun! As the riders came into our up yard opposite the Station, I thought the girls looked lovely and the boys most gallant - even the village bobby was joviality personified. Ray Horsley and Ray Hedley ushered the lads and lasses with their steeds onto the up platform and it didn't need any imagination to believe they were passengers for the next stopper to Aylesbury. Congratulations to all the cyclists on their splendid appearance. It added such a gay and colourful touch to our vintage day. By the way, it was good to see two preserved London Transport RT buses at Quainton at the weekend: RT 4028 in red and RT 3148 in country bus green.
