Scrap Paper Collection
For those who do not visit the Centre very often, the new arrangements for collecting waste paper are as follows: All types of paper and cardboard should be bundled before being put in the new skip, with card being kept near the door. This is at the request of the paper merchant - and, if we make life easier for them, they will give us more for the paper. Non-carbon computer paper should be bundled and stored in the weighbridge hut, as it is worth more when kept separate from newsprint. It is hoped to make one full load of this per year. We can earn money from waste paper for no outlay at all and the target this year is £1,000.
The Society is licensed by AVDC to hold raffles and this year the proceeds will be put towards further improvements to the track in the up yard. There are numerous prizes and it is hoped that everybody will endeavour to sell as many tickets as possible. If all are sold we stand to make £2,000. There is a small prize for the person who sells the most tickets.
Sponsored Cycle Ride
Members who attended the AGM will recall being asked to sponsor Miles Taylor and Bob Smith on their 50-mile ride. You will be pleased to hear that they duly completed the course and are now awaiting your pledges! My thanks are due to Messrs. Aylward and Jones, who also participated, plus the Thomson B1 Group from Loughborough, who organised the event and provided stewards. Finally, I must not forget Jean Judge of Radio Oxford, who, on a visit to Quainton to do an outside broadcast, found herself presenting certificates to those who completed the fifty miles.
