Buckinghamshire Railway Centre - The Year Ahead

1993 promises to be a year of opportunity, enabling us to build on our successful 1992 joint ventures with Network SouthEast, and for a special event with London Underground. Our programme contains some old favourites, but we are incorporating new items to broaden our appeal to a wider audience.

As mentioned in the last Bulletin we are aiming for at least one major event each month during the season:

April 11th / 12th (Easter Sunday)
Easter Fun Day: 3 Bears, and more. It is also rumoured that a certain Peruvian Resident may be visiting from his home in a London Terminus.

May 2nd / 3rd (May Day Bank Holiday)
The long heralded launch of L99! (Oh yes it will!!) with a jazz band plus possibly a Star Guest.

May 30th / 31st (Spring Bank Holiday)
Sunday: The RAC Classic Car Run will use QR as a checkpoint, for cars starting from Highclere Castle.
Monday: Annual Bus Rally. We'll also welcome back our friends from the Veteran Cycle Club of Great Britain for the weekend.

June 12th / 13th
The Friends of Thomas the Tank Engine. The 12th is a private day for a large organization - the 13th will be open to the public.

July 3rd / 4th
The Celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the inauguration of the London Passenger Transport Board. A special train is planned from Harrow, to be steam-hauled to Quainton Road (and possibly beyond). Displays and railway and bus exhibits at Quainton Road in conjunction with LUL and the London Transport Museum.

July 24th / 25th
Aliens Weekend. With Dr Who characters and other out-of-the-world folk (including Phil Marsh!).

August 29th / 30th (Summer Bank Holiday)
Sunday: The Rover Car Rally.
Monday: The Vintage Car and Motor Cycle Rally.

September 19th
The return of the ever-popular Fire-Engines, with displays of fire-fighting.

September 25th / 26th
A Main Line Steam Event in conjunction with Network SouthEast, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Aylesbury and the 25th Anniversary of the end of mainline steam of British Rail Steam Shuttles running between Aylesbury and Claydon. We are trying to arrange an exhibition of the A & B and its effect on the area. We are also encouraging members to wear period costume! (Plenty of time to plan yours!)

October 16th / 17th
Friends of Thomas the Tank Engine. Events such as these provide a tremendous boost for the Society in a number of ways - but it takes much effort both in planning and on-the-day: WE MUST HAVE EXTRA HELP TO ASSIST OUR HARD-PRESSED VOLUNTEERS
