British Rail Mark 1 - Full Brake M81269 / S84269
S84269 is a full brake coach built in 1957 by Pressed Steel for British Rail. It weighs 31 tons and is fitted with dual heating and vacuum brakes, on B1 bogies. It was used on the Midland region when new, but later transferred to the Southern region where it worked mainly on the night newspaper trains out of London. When this contract was lost to road traffic in 1988, it was condemned as surplus as it was due for a minor overhaul. It was purchased as a support coach for 25 057 (D5207), and moved with the locomotive when it left Quainton. The coach now forms part of the North Norfolk Railway's suburban coach rake in maroon livery. It is currently out of operational service, being used as a static vehicle. |
