Quainton Guide 1976
The above photos show Quainton as it used to be. The first picture, taken by member H C Casserley on 7th July 1946, depicts LNER locomotive No. 4888 pulling a Marylebone train approaching the station whilst the second was taken on 26th March 1967 and shows the signal box that was unfortunately burnt to the ground just before the Society took possession of the site. The bottom two scenes, taken at the same time, are general views from the station looking towards Aylesbury and show the connections between the main lines and the two yards, which were removed soon after when the line was singled. The large area of the yard can be seen In these photographs although the weeds have already taken their toll on the platform. |
