The committee and members of the Quainton Railway Socjety welcome you to its Quainton Road depot, situated in the heart of the Vale of Aylesbury, some six miles north-west of Aylesbury town, and sincerely hope that you have an enjoyab)e visit.

This booklet gives brief details of the Society and Depot ans of some of the attractions that we have on display throughout the year.

Here we have one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of standard gauge steam and diesel locomotives in the country, and it is our constant aim to improve our facilities and make your visit a pleasant and memorable one. There is something for all the family to enjoy, and we hope that you will take a trip behind a steam engine, bringing back memories to anyone over 21 and being a unique experience for the children. We usually offer a choice of an ancient coach, dating back to the last century, or a variety of open wagons. The latter are by far the more popular, even on wet days, especially with the youngsters, as they can really see (and smell!) the engine at work.

To appreciate the locomotives and rolling stock fully, we strongly recommenp purchase of our illustrated stock book. This is on sale from the bookshop, and gives the histories of all items on display, together with photographs of most for ease of identification, as we can only gjve brief details in a booklet of this size.

We have tried to provide access to as much of the site as possible, but there are some areas to which access has had to be restricted for safety reasons, or to allow restoration work to continue, and we ask you to:-

PLEASE . . .
. . . . Keep inside the roped boundaries and do not trespass on British Rail property.
. . . . Cross the BR main line ONLY by the footbridge. It is liable to be used at ANY time.
. . . . Place your litter in the bins provided.
. . . . Keep your dog on a lead. Loose dogs can cause accidents.
. . . . Take care when walking over or near track. Every precaution has been taken to ensure your safety, but remember that locomotives, like cars, cannot stop dead. Do not jump over the pit.
. . . . Follow the requests of stewards. They are there to help you.
. . . . Do not smoke in the buildings.
