Education coach project receives good news

The Ernest Cook Trust has awarded us a grant of £1200 towards our Education Coach Project. The money is for a laptop, white board and other educational items. We are waiting to hear the result of other grant requests to further assist this project.

The Education Coach is the old LMS coach in the Buffer Depot. It is currently at the far end of road 3. It was previously our second refreshment coach. When purchased 20 odd years ago, it was a part of one of the Emergency Control Trains held, in secret, in various locations around the UK, for possible Government use. These trains were of 5 or 6 coaches and supposed to be self: contained mobile control centres. The end of the Cold War reduced their need.

The midweek Parks & Gardens Team are converting and adapting it for its new role under Bob Davies, our Education Officer. It will provide a secure environment where things can be laid out in advance for a schools visit and left for the next one without the need to tidy everything away in between. Wheelchair access via a new ramp is a key part of this project and a double door is being created towards one end.
