GWR 72XX Class 2-8-2T No. 7200

7200 Work Update - John Porter - Vice Chairman 7200 Trust

During early 2009, work progressed at a slow but steady pace as we had a couple of younger members who had to resign due to work commitments caused mainly by being made redundant and having to relocate. We wish them well. I am pleased to say that this trend has now been reversed and we have two new members, both with metal working skills.

On the engineering side, we have purchased and fitted most of the smoke box cladding and are in the process of fitting the insulation. As all of the horizontal plate in front of the smoke box has been renewed and fitted we are anxious to obtain the dome which fits over the pony truck pivot. Does anyone know where we might obtain one?

The cylinders have been cleaned inside and found to be in good condition. Recently we have installed the new vacuum reservoir and are in the process of connecting the relevant pipe work. While we are awaiting the manufacture of certain parts, we have decided to start reconnecting the sandboxes; hopefully this should be finished by the time that you read this. If anyone is interested in helping with the project, or are just interested, details can be obtained from our website or by visiting our sales stand in Romney 2 which is open on most major event days and bank holidays. .
