Our Ambassadors at Aylesbury

One feature of the Bank Holiday scene at Aylesbury is the special train service operated to and from Quainton Road. What is not so well known is the fact that we have two members who do a marvellous job at Aylesbury by setting out the stall, selling tickets and seeing that all our visitors by rail are properly provided for. These two stalwarts are John Reed and Jim Stevens and it is true that they have built up a very cordial relationship between the QRS and Aylesbury BR staff. John and Jim have got the drill for Quaintonian days down to a fine art. First of all they do the signs on the DMU, and at the station porch. Then Jim sets up shop for selling tickets and John goes round securing the platform signs. All this is repeated p.m., of course, in reverse order! This August there was a splendid vermilion banner, 7ft. long, above the QRS ticket desk in the booking hall and it was pretty successful in drawing people to the right place. The only serious complaint we understand is that the train is a DMU! Perhaps, one day, we might have a sign reading 'Hourly steam service from Aylesbury, starting at 10.25'. And I'm sure John and Jim will be issued free tickets for the first train. They deserve it! |
