Successfully completed and brought into use in 1978 is the forge at the back of the Down Yard Restoration Building and this new facility is already proving its value to the Locomotive Department. Not only has it been used for smith's work, but also as a very useful aid when white metal has to be run out of bearings. This saves time and money and Frank Boait is full of praise for the spot of forgery he can indulge in.
