Schools Steamings
This year we had 1,450 children from 26 schools at the beginning of July. There was a shortage of helpers, but for many of the children it was their first sight of a steam locomotive in action and this made it very rewarding for those who able to devote time to the Schools visits. The Bucks Herald on 5th July, carried a report on the Turnfurlong First School's visit by 56 pupils and there were charming pictures of children in front of the Beattie and on Swanscombe's footplate. The youngsters certainly appreciated Gordon Rodwell's helpful explanations and we hope many future Quainton members were generated by this and other visits from the local schools this year. Financially the Society made a little useful cash from catering and bookstall sales. Thanks lads. |
