A new copper band has been fitted to the chimney in traditional style by an ex-Swindon employee and it has been attracting many admiring glances. The driving wheel axle boxes and journals have been inspected and new felt pads fitted. The next job is to lower the frames back onto the wheels. The vacuum cylinder for the brakes has been refitted to the frames. Progress is steady, but restricted by the size of the working party - so extra pairs of hands are always welcome. The 6989 Group raises all its own funds and members are reminded that they can support the engine by purchasing items from the Carriage Shop.
