From the Stationmaster's Office...
The decision to open every Saturday throughout the summer is beginning to pay dividends with a steady flow of visitors most weekends. At the moment, we have a Stationmaster rostered for each Saturday together with someone in refreshments, the shop and the office, plus someone on the gate if we can. When the admission entrance is through the office, as hopefully it will be soon, the situation will be easier, but we are desperately short of volunteers to cover lunch breaks etc. If you are free on Saturdays, why not come along? You will be made most welcome. The more money we can take from the public on these not-so-busy days, the sooner our Centre will be complete! We have been complimented on a number of occasions on the improvement in car parking, and that visitors can take photographs of stock without members cars in them. Thank you. On the subject of cars, remember to keep your speed down, especially when it is dusty, and close gates behind you EVEN if it was open when you arrived but you know it should be shut. On the subject of First Aid, we did have a small incident on a day when the Red Cross were not on site. Luckily a member who was qualified was soon found, but it did show that our list of trained members was not necessarily up to date. It would be helpful if all trained members could advise me or Chris Tayler so that the list can be corrected. For a number of reasons, our own First Aid training did not take place in the Spring, but it will be given priority over the winter months. Anyone interested, please let me know. Nothing fancy but maybe a life could be saved. Finally, my thanks to all Stationmasters who have helped during the year. |
