DB950048

What, another Brake Van one might say! It's quite true, however, but after some six months, perhaps not dissimilar to the anguish of buying a house, DB950048 has now arrived in the Up Yard after transportation from Bescot.

In fact this van was the first of several I saw looking somewhat deserted in a yard close to the M6 at Wednesbury and when I discovered it was 'condemned' I was keen to start enquiries to obtain it; to learn the price from BR; to know when it could be collected, and delivery to Quainton.

Details of its history are sketchy but we know it was one of a batch of 20 ton vehicles produced at Derby in 1950, based on a LMS design. On a closer inspection it appears to have received some recent refurbishment, including a new canvas on the roof and new running boards.

Now both Gwen and myself have started to clean it up; to returning its outward appearance as in the '50s and make suitable overnight accommodation thus reducing the number of eighty mile trips taken each time we come to Quainton.
