Carriage and Wagon Department News - Duncan Battersby, C & W Manager

Mark One Carriage CK No. 7235

This carriage is being prepared for a full external repair in Lined Maroon and hopefully will be completed and available for service for the summer season.

Trailer Car of Class 115 DMU

This has been virtually completed and has been outshopped in Green. To complete work on this coach, it now only needs to be lined and lettered.

Ventilated Van (Restoration Shed)

By the time that you read this edition of Quainton News, this Van should be fully lettered and available for use in the Society's freight train.

Great Northern Coach No. 1472

Steady progress is being made on the restoration of this historic 100 years old coach. Work completed recently, includes all the roof boards have been re-attached and some further roof repairs undertaken. The Guards compartment is being completely internally refitted. The underframe will soon have it's rebushed drawer springs in place and with a bit of luck, the brake equipment should also be fitted this year.

NEXT PROJECTS

Coaches

A review, including costings, will be carried out during the next 6 months on the level of repairs required to be able to return the LNER 1938 build Gresley Brake to service - as soon as finance becomes available.

The Victorian build LNWR Cinema coach will be closely inspected and a detailed assessment of the total cost to externally restore this coach to its original sleeper profile will be drawn up. It is also intended to work on either the Class 115 DMU Power Car or the Mark One TSO Coach next year. This depends on finance being made available.

Wagons

Once the Ventilated Van has been completed and removed from the Restoration Shed, work will start under the guidance of Lewis Yates on the total reconstruction of the Metropolitan Railway Crane runner wagon.

Other wagon work could include the Midland Railway Brake Van as and when space in the restoration shed becomes available and finance allows..

Finally, some private owners have expressed an interest in supplying paint to the C & W team so that their vehicles can be painted - keep your eyes open for improvements to private owner stock! Most importantly, the C & W team has new members joining every month. We must be doing something right.
