Mike's Christmas Tree - Sheila Lobley
![]() Photo: |
A small crowd was present at Quainton Wednesday 20th February to watch / assist as the tree in memory of Mike Cope was planted. The tree is a Korean Fir, similar to a non-drop Christmas tree, and holds upright cones, which are an attractive purple when newly formed. This was purchased from the Community Tree Trust at Flitwick, Bedfordshire. This charity specialises in collecting local provenance and native seed of trees, shrubs and wild flowers from ancient woodlands throughout Bedfordshire, growing them on for two or three years, then offering them for re-planting at a very reasonable price, throughout Bedfordshire and on this occasion the BRC! If you are interested in the work of the Community Tree Trust, or would like to see their stock lists, all the details are on their web site: www.communitytreetrust.co.uk. Thank you to all those who contributed to Mike Cope's Christmas Tree Fund. There is still a small part of the fund left to go towards a plaque or some white lights to decorate the tree. The plan is to set up white lights on the tree once it's established, then leave them on the tree to light up the area just inside the BRC entrance gate, both at Christmas and for evening events during the Season, such as weddings and private functions. If anyone else would still like to make a donation to complete the purchase of suitable lights, by all means do so! (Thank you!) Send to Quainton c/o John Sampson, stating clearly it is for Mike's Tree Fund. (Cheques payable to QRS). |
