Railway Correspondence and Travel Society's Rail Tour
Paddington to Quainton

It is always an interesting experience to see Quainton through the eyes of a visitor and I was able to do this on 11th October when I took part in the Railway Correspondence and Travel Society's Rail Tour - called The Quainton and Bicester Rail Tour'. May I say right away that we gave a great deal of pleasure to the 220 tour participants, who were full of praise for the excellent arrangements made for their reception and they were delighted to have had the opportunity of a trip behind Coventry No. 1 and to see Sentinel No. 2 in steam as well. Chris Tayler, Tony Lyster and many other members made me proud to tell everyone about Quainton after we had left for Bicester and I am sure the publicity and sales from such tours as this one by the RCTS is very valuable. During the 1½ hours we were at Quainton the 3-car DMU stood in the main platform and as we left there were friendly exchanges on the whistle and horns of the trains. Well done Quainton. Let us hope BR will agree to many more similar tours. Maybe we should run one ourselves. |
